Opensource is a large topic to discuss but Nalpeiron has taken great pains to ensure that it's use of Opensource is carefully and selectively used within our products, or free components and utilities.
In our later products for Analytics and Licensing after Q1 2013, we use a range of open source components as below. If you want to be sure what you are using or wish to avoid any Opensource please contact us for further confirmations.
So what does Nalpeiron use?

We only use Open source that uses licenses under BSD, Apache and MIT. These three are very flexible and allow you to do anything you want with the code so long as you reproduce a notice.
The BSD only requires that a copyright notice is included with all source code and binary releases. It also states that BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) is not responsible for anything to do with the code. That's it which is why it can be the basis of OSX. BSD licensing information is scattered through the OSX headers, SDKs, etc.
An Apache license says that if a NOTICE file is included with the source, you have to make that file available in certain circumstances. The NOTICEs file can never modify the license, it can only display information. The only display condition that affects us is that it should be included in our documentation. Also, if you modify any code you must prominently state that fact. We haven't. We use it as a library.
There are several MIT licenses but mostly they say that the producer of the original code is blameless for any faults and that a copyright notification needs to go into sourcecode.
Wikipedia has good entries on all these licenses.
